This article gives an explanation of how the HUD, bindings, icons and its advanced options work.
For beginners, a more suitable explanation of the HUD is provided at Getting Started.
Tools
Love gives you four tool slots which are bound to your number keys 1-4. Small empty squares indicate an empty slot. Every time you start the game, blaster and smooth edit are given to you automatically. Tools can be used an unlimited amount of times, as long as you have enough power (see Power Meter below). If you walk up to a token dispenser within your settlement, you can tap one of your number keys (1-4) to equip it into a tool slot.
Inventory
The personal inventory panel will appear whenever you pick up a token seed or pod. Your inventory has a capacity of up to 4 items, each pod or token counts as one slot. Each inventory item is bound to your F1-F4 keys, you must use your MOUSE1 button (usually left click) in order to deploy an item.
- Pods can be deployed anywhere you please, except for cable pods, ensure you know their purpose before doing so.
- Token Seeds can be placed in your settlement's area of effect. Once you deploy a token seed, it will turn into a token.
Monolith and Checkpoints
Two icons, one each for your monolith and checkpoint will be located in a panel to the left of your power meter. These icons will appear as you set them.
When you start the game for the first time, you will not be a member of any player settlements. A indicator in the center of the screen will guide you to settlements that are established in the world. If there is no indicator, you may have the privilege of picking up a monolith token and placing it where you please.
If you become a member of a settlement that is still alive when you start the game up, you will automatically spawn at the settlement and have its indicator in your HUD. Checkpoints will always be lost between sessions.
Opening your chat screen and clicking on either one of these icons will teleport you instantly to its the location. Note that you will drop any tokens in your inventory. However, pods will remain.
Power Meter
Shows your personal power levels. The first figure is your current power level, the second is how much the current tool uses, per shot. In the example, the blaster tool is selected, it therefore costs 2 unit per shot.
FPS
The frames per second (FPS) figure of your client is shown here. This is mostly for debugging purposes.
Coordinates
Love will tell you where you are, whenever you are looking at something other than the sky. Clicking Coordinate will automatically add a Location Bookmark (see below) The text "###:###:?" is your current position in the world. The text after the position, is the type of object that you are looking at.
Location Bookmarks
Also referred to as places in Love literature.
Location bookmarks are a way of creating a compass to any location in the world. They are located to the right of the Coordinate panel in your HUD. Bookmarks are forgotten when you close the Love screen.
There are various ways of creating location bookmarks, they are as follows:
- A manual location bookmark can be created by opening your local chat screen (Esc key). And typing the location in manually (###:###:?). The colons may be replaced by spaces, it is up to you. Press enter, then click the double arrow icon. A compass pointing to the location will be created in your location bookmark HUD area. You can recall the location text, or delete a location bookmark by opening the chat screen, and hovering your mouse over the icon.
- The primary purpose behind binoculars are to save location bookmarks. Equip the binocular tool into your tools, then activate it by clicking its number binding (1-4). Your screen will then zoom in. If you use your MOUSE1 button (usually left click) when zoomed in, you will save the location of whatever location or object you are focused on.
- To save the location of what you are looking at, as long as it is in very close proximity, you can open the chat screen, and click the word Coordinate in the HUD.
- To save the location that a token is currently set to. Open its configuration screen, then click the plus symbol located underneath the location.
Creating a North Compass
Some people find it useful to always have a compass facing the north pole. This can be done by typing in 64:64:N into the chat screen.
Home Teleporter
A best practice in Love is to always have a teleporter located close to home always bookmarked. This will help when you get into a sticky situation, and need to get back to your settlement quickly. This may be because you have a token, and need to carry it home in a rush. AI settlements always spawn a teleporter for this exact reason.
Having the home teleporter as your first location bookmark is a good way to remember which bookmark it is, and helps when trimming useless bookmarks not to delete it.
Radio Frequency Bookmarks
Radio frequency bookmarks are a way of saving radio frequencies that are useful to you. They are located to the right of the Location Bookmarks panel in your HUD. Bookmarks are forgotten when you close the Love screen.
You may find radio frequency bookmarks useful for:
- If you come across knowledge, it may mention an artillery frequency.
- You may want to save the frequency of a explosive-proximity sensor network.
- You may want to remotely edit the configuration screen of a token.
- To chat to other players, that are tuned to that frequency.
Radio frequencies can be saved by:
- Typing in a radio frequency, manually into the chat screen. This can be done by typing a 2-3 numbers followed by a period, then another number. Press Enter. Click the small icon that is located next to the frequency.
- To save the frequency that a token is currently set to. Open its configuration screen, then click the plus symbol located underneath the radio frequency.
Keyword Bookmarks
Keywords are a way of activating specific tokens that are listening for a keyword. For example, you may want to set up a proximity sensor that listens for AI. If you set it to isson then it will only trigger when AI come into contact. Players will be ignored.
Keyword Bookmarks are located to the right of the Radio Frequency Bookmarks panel in your HUD. Bookmarks are forgotten when you close the Love screen.
To save a keyword, you can do one of the following.
- Type in at least three spaces, then whatever word you want in quotations. You must type three or more spaces before the quotes, do NOT ask. Click the key icon to the right of the keyword to save it into your keyword bookmarks.
- To save the keyword that a token is currently set to. Open its configuration screen, then click the plus symbol located underneath the keyword.
Action Bookmarks
Actions are saved messages that can contain keyword triggers, or any other piece of information that is usually contained in chat message. They are located to the right of the Keyword Bookmarks panel in your HUD. Bookmarks are forgotten when you close the Love screen.
To save a action bookmark you can click the action icon next to a line of text in the chat screen. To use an action bookmark, open your chat screen (Esc) and MOUSE1 (left click) the action bookmark you wish to trigger. The message will then be rebroadcast into the chat screen.
